e-CITIZEN is a computer skills
certification programme from ICS SKILLS. The programme caters for those
with a limited knowledge of computers and the internet and enables them
to develop their ability in those areas.
The e-CITIZEN programme focuses on the candidate’s skills and knowledge
in essential computer and internet use and gives them the confidence to
participate in society as an e-citizen. The programme aims to make
candidates aware of available online information and service resources
from a wide variety of areas including: news, government, consumer,
travel, education/training, employment, health and business. The
candidate will be able to confidently interact with online service
providers and carry out routine tasks such as buying a CD or book,
paying a bill, banking online, completing a tax return or making a
holiday reservation.
e-CITIZEN is a global qualification, developed by the ECDL Foundation in
response to European directives promoting e-citizenship.
e-CITIZEN helps Candidates to
develop an understanding and experience of computers and the internet
with a view to facilitating their participation in the Information
Society. On completion of the programme Candidates will have acquired
the skills to be able to fully participate in e-society. Candidates will
be:
aware of information sources and
available online services
able to browse the World Wide Web and extract useful information in
the areas of news, government,
consumer, travel, education/training, employment, health, interest
groups and business
capable of searching for information from a variety of sources
able to use e-government services and commercial online services
(e.g. banking)
able to carry out online transactions
