ADC Chairperson - Mayor of County Galway

Athenry County Councillor Peter Feeney has been
elected Galway County Mayor for the coming year. The Fine Gael
representative succeeded Independent Councillor Seán Canney at the
Galway County Council AGM on Monday evening.
Mr Feeney has been a Fine Gael councillor for
Athenry since 2003, after taking the seat vacated by Ulick Burke.
Speaking yesterday morning after his election
win, Cllr Feeney said he was truly honoured to have been entrusted
with the position. "We really hit the ground running this week; I'm
attending functions that would have been accepted by the previous
Mayor and I'll be everywhere from the Aran Islands to Athenry."
Despite undertaking what will undoubtedly be a
very demanding job, Cllr Feeney is excited about the year ahead. "I
am very much looking forward to getting into it now and I'm actually
looking forward to the work. I'm also looking forward to getting out
and meeting people," he said.
